Club History

The Relics Basketball Club was established during the Spring of 2001 just before the start of the Botswana Basketball Association (BBA) League in September 2001. During this time there were no ladies teams in the BBA, with Relics playing an instrumental role in the introduction of ladies games, along with teams such as Vixens, Clevels and Lynx. The club colours then were purple with the original team colour as grey. In the second year of existence, Relics adopted red as the team colour due to a kit sponsorship from Xerox Company. The 2010 kit sponsor was Zac Construction PTY (LTD).

In 2010 the proposal submitted by one of the founders and life member of the female basketball club Relics, Thandi Tumelo, was approved by the University of Botswana (UB). After almost ten years of operating as a private women's basketball club, Relics aligned with UB to first build a ladies team for the university in August 2011. By 2013 the team was a successful force thanks to the Basketball Athlete Development (BAD) program. UB Relics Basketball changed its logo and web address and went blue.

After almost 15 years as a women focused basketball club, in 2014 UB Relics introduced the men's team, which was promoted to the A division of the BBA men's national basketball league in its rookie year. After a successful first round of games, the young varsity team towered over the legends of basketball in their first season in the A Division. This brought about the opportunity for the men's development team introduced to the BBA national league Division B in the Spring of 2016.
